About Our School

Welcome to Ben Franklin Elementary, Home of the Roadrunners!

The doors to Ben Franklin opened for the first time in January 1961. When the school was built, there was only a farm to the west and a handful of homes to the east. Now, the school is surrounded by homes where many of the families have walked through our halls and proudly refer to themselves as a Roadrunner. Our typical enrollment at Ben Franklin is around 340 students in grades K-5.

The success of our school and students is based on a culture of collaboration. Our teachers and support staff at Ben Franklin wholeheartedly believe that every student is “their” student to teach. It is wonderful to witness the staff putting “kids first” on a daily basis. Every month the teachers have an opportunity to collaborate during our Professional Learning Communities. During this time, the teachers focus on the “right work” to meet the social-emotional and academic needs of our learners. We have multiple programs in place to assist in achieving student growth: Reading Recovery, Guided Reading K-5, Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS), Olweus Bullying Prevention Program (OBPP), Multi-Tiered Support Systems for Academics and Behavior MTSS-A and MTSS-B), School-Wide Enrichment Program (SWEP), and ENCORE (after-school program).

We deeply appreciate those who take an active role in their child's education because we believe you to be your partner in education. The families at Ben Franklin attend our monthly RED events and our Parent Learning Opportunities. Our PTO is quite active and works hard to provide our teachers and students with the materials they need to enhance their educational experiences. If you enroll your child at Ben Franklin or are a current family, please consider being a part of our PTO team.

In May 2019, Ben Franklin attained certification as a Level 1 (Safe, Supportive, and Collaborative Culture) High Reliability School through Marzano Research. We are proud of this accomplishment and will continue to sustain the work that led to this certification.

If you are planning to enroll your child at Ben Franklin, please contact our school office at (701) 746-2250. Registration information can also be located on the Grand Forks Public School’s homepage under the “Registration” tab.  Please look for Ben Franklin on Twitter at @BFRoadrunner#learningatBF, and on Facebook @Benfranklingfps.

Although our school is larger in size, we take pride in the small “family feel” that is present.  We hope you will join our Ben Franklin family or stop in to say hello if you are a current family!
